Patrick Mouratoglou, the coach of tennis legend Serena Williams, has announced an initiative to support the Black Lives Matter movement.

After the death of African-American George Floyd and the subsequent protests in the United States, Mouratoglou has decided to support the Black Lives Matter movement.

Mouratoglou has started his own tennis event called the ‘Ultimate Tennis Showdown’ and in a recent video on Twitter, he said he would be donating $50 to support the Black Lives Matter movement for every card played at the event.

Mouratoglou says, "I am deeply ashamed that in 2020, 60 years after Martin Luther King paid with his life for calling for equality, the black community as a whole still has to face some terrible racist and heinous crimes.

Although a large majority of people are not racist, it is our common responsibility to stand against this evil. Now is the time for action. This is why I decided that for every card played throughout the event, UTS will donate $50 to support the Black Lives Matter movement”.

Patrick Mouratoglou founded the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy in 1996 in France and has coached many players, including Marcos Baghdatis (whom he coached to the final of the 2006 Australian Open), Julia Vakulenko, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Aravane Rezaï, Jérémy Chardy, Laura Robson, Yanina Wickmayer and Grigor Dimitrov.

The players taking part are: Dominic Thiem, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Matteo Berrettini, David Goffin, Benoit Paire, Richard Gasquet, Feliciano Lopez, Lucas Pouille, Alexei Popyrin and fan-favourite Dustin Brown.
