Elina Svitolina on the resumption of the tennis circuit
Ukraine's Elina Svitolina was speaking to the BTU website and says, “It's great that everything comes back, of course, but there are many questions.
I think it's not just me. At the moment, the conditions offered to us are not ideal, because there will be many tests, more isolation, it is not clear what will happen to the points, with the money. It is very difficult to say something." Svitolina says the restrictions are quite strict for all players to adhere to.
“I think the conditions are still quite strict. For example, according to the rule, if you get sick or have any symptoms, you can be removed from any round and isolated for 14 days. Some points that are not yet known exactly how they will go are quite difficult for all players.
I think they will do their best for us. We will see in the near future how everything is going. I hope that everything goes well and that we return slowly. ” Speaking about the ranking points, Svitolina says she hopes points will be provided at all tournaments as it would not make sense to play without points in such circumstances.
"If there are no points in a tournament, I don't know if it makes sense to go play because the conditions are not enough. If you need to spend so much time in isolation, this also plays an important role. I know that there will be more meetings, that this will be decided in the next weeks." Elina Svitolina has a career-high ranking of No.
3 in the world. She has won 14 WTA singles titles, including the 2018 WTA Finals. Svitolina reached her first Grand Slam semifinal at the 2019 Wimbledon Championships and followed it up with a second consecutive semifinal at the 2019 US Open.
She has six wins over a world No. 1 to her name and in doubles, she has won two titles, both at the İstanbul Cup, in 2014 and 2015. Prior to the shutdown, Svitolina won the Monterrey Open by beating Marie Bouzková in the final.
