Tennis is all in the mind

PERSONAL GROWTH

This factor comes into play from the very first shots you take in practice. It is a basic and continuing stage of mental preparation.

THE EXPERIENCE OF LIFE

The creation of one's own values, of one's own sensitivity, of one's own convictions according to the events that one has experienced…all of these combine to form a person’s mental reference points.

KNOWLEDGE OF SELF

Learn to discover yourself. This leads to much more effective personal management of emotions.

SUCCESS STRATEGIES

(Before the match) You can focus on these before each match:

THE CONCENTRATION RITUAL

Tennis consists of much downtime broken up by short periods of action. Because of this, you need to be able to concentrate at the right time. You need to be able to manage your gestures, thoughts and mental state in such a way that you are able to concentrate optimally.

PRECISELY SET YOUR GOALS

The more precise your goals are, the greater your concentration will be in pursuit of these goals.

By setting goals you prepare yourself for completing them, and in so doing set yourself up for success.

IMPLEMENTATION

(During the match)

LICENSE TO SUCCEED

You have the right to play good points and perform at your maximum potential.

RIGHT TO ERROR

You have the right to make mistakes, like everyone else. Not reaching a certain goal should not frustrate you too much.

PERFORM CONCENTRATION RITUALS

Everything you have previously established can be applied during the match.

THE DEBRIEF

(After the match) The debrief allows you to prepare for the next match/training session. In this way, you can correct what did not work at the mental level. It is preferable that the debrief be:

REAL

Reflect on concrete things, for example particular points from the match.

MEASURABLE IN AN ACCURATE WAY

Rely on statistics that are reflective of your performance.

PERFORMED REGULARLY

Keeping mentally fit is a constant work in progress.

POSITIVE!

To advance, be positive in all your practices.

ABLE TO GIVE LIFE TO NEW ACTION PLANS

A good debrief should give you an idea of how to move forward constructively.
