In this video, the "shoulder over shoulder" action will be analysed. This action takes place when there is an overturning of the shoulders' level needed to produce more energy. The non-dominant arm, in modern serve, covers several functions:
- throw of the ball at the 12 o'clock position (in line with the vertical axis of the body)
- balance of the body
- tilt of the shoulder
This last aspect is very important in modern tennis, because during the stage of maximum loading the right shoulder is below the left one.
Gradually, during the hit of the ball, there will be an overturning of the shoulders' level and the dominant shoulder will go above the left shoulder.
This overturning produces a huge quantity of energy, crucial in order to express a high speed serve.
