The World Health Organization recommends walking at least 10 000 steps a day. This is easier said than done…so here are 7 tips to help you get to your 10 000 steps.
1. WALK WHILE YOU BRUSH YOUR TEETH
Instead of standing still while brushing your teeth, take a walk around the house. You will be amazed how many steps you can accumulate in those three minutes.
2. SKIP A STOP
If you take a bus or tram to work, get out at the stop before the one closest to your work. This way, you get to walk the last bit and rack up those steps!
3. TAKE THE STAIRS
Wherever you are, there will probably always be an elevator. Avoid it! Taking the stairs helps accumulate steps quickly and is great for your body.
4. WALK AND TALK
Have you ever noticed how many hours you spend on the phone with friends and co-workers? Many of these conversations are long and take place while you are sitting down or simply standing around. Instead, walk around as you talk to people.
5. GO FOR A WALK AFTER LUNCH
Just a few minutes can make a massive difference, not only to clear your mind but to strengthen your body
6. WALK TO THE SHOPS
Not everyone is lucky enough to have a shop within walking distance, but if you do, take advantage of the fact by walking there instead of driving
7. BE ACTIVE WITH FRIENDS
Instead of meeting your friends in a club or a restaurant, meet them for a hike or a relaxing stroll in nature.
4 REASONS YOU NEED TO DO MORE STEPS:
• Being active improves the quality of your rest.
• Being fit will make you feel good.
• Being more active reduces your risk of diabetes and prevents back pain.
• Doing 10 000 steps a day will burn around 300 calories.
