Troubled with injury, former World No 1, Victoria Azarenka has been forced to withdraw her participation from a Wimbledon warm up event in Nottingham. The Belarusian has pulled out of the Aegon Championships owing to the fact that she has been unable to recover from a knee injury which forced her to also withdraw from the first round of the French Open.
"'I am very disappointed to have to withdraw from Nottingham.
My knee is unfortunately not yet completely healed and ready to play at 100 per cent. I had been very much looking forward to playing here in front of the fans in Nottingham but hope to have a chance to come back next year instead." The injury for Azarenka comes at a very crucial time as the Belarusian had only recently started to return to her best form – coming back from injury.
Azarenka had won the Indian Wells-Miami double coming into the clay season and had been looking swift up until back problems forced her out of the Madrid Masters and this recent injury has seen her out of the second Grand Slam of the year.
The World No 5 is looking forward to making herself fit for the Wimbledon championships due late in June. Also Read: WTA ENTRY LISTS: Bacsinszky and Suarez Navarro in Gstaad, Halep first seed in Romania
