Tennis - 34 year old Frenchwoman Severine Beltrame has announced her retirement from the game. The Frenchwoman is best known for reaching the quarter finals at Wimbledon a few years ago in a surprising run. She was hoping to make it to the main draw in the singles this year in her last event but was beaten in the first round of qualifying by third seeded Yvonne Meusburger.
The Austrain won 6-2, 6-3 in just over an hour to put an end to the Frenchwoman's career. Beltrame, ranked no. 150 in the world currently, said that "deciding to retire and then actually having to do it when the moment arrives are two completely different things.
I would obviously have liked to get a bit further, and this is a really emotional moment. But it had to come to an end someday, so even though it's tough, I've got no regrets." Beltrame will play the women's doubles in Paris with Laura Thorpe.
