"Extremely excited" Emma Raducanu joins Halep at vampiric Transylvania Open

With her idol Simona Halep already enlisted in the tournament’s draw, Emma Raducanu accepted the invitation to compete at Transylvania Open, a new WTA 250 event that will take place in the city of Cluj-Napoca, Romania, which is the natal country of the US Open champion’s father.

The tournament will take place between the 23rd and 31st of October, being the last tournament on the calendar before the WTA Finals. Raducanu’s father Ian, a finance professional, grew up in Romania before he met his Chinese wife Renee, who gave birth to the tennis star that turned the world on its head after her historical run from qualifier to US Open winner.

“I am extremely excited to play at the Transylvania Open, in front of Romanian fans. My father is from Romania, so to participate for the first time in a WTA competition in the country where he was born is a special moment and I can't wait to get to Cluj!” said Raducanu after being confirmed on the main draw of Transylvania Open.

Cluj-Napoca, also known as The Heart of Transylvania – region commonly associated with vampires – is a smart city that successfully hosted another WTA 250 event this year, namely Winners Open, whose conqueror was Andrea Petkovic.

“We have a very strong draw, and the competition promises to be a close one!

We will definitely see some memorable matches. Honestly, as many important names will come to Cluj, the October tournament’s caliber is similar to WTA 500 tournaments. Any tournament organizer would like to have Simona Halep and Emma Raducanu on board, and the Romanian public will have a unique chance to watch them on the field.

We look forward to all the players registered for the Transylvania Open, where we prepare many surprises for them. Tennis, spiced with a touch of magic,” said Patrick Ciorcila, the tournament director of Transylvania Open.
