Tennis - American Bethanie Mattek-Sands is through to the fourth round of the French Open in Paris. The 28 year old defeated qualifier Paula Ormaechea in three sets, following up her three-set win over sixth seed Li Na. Mattek-Sands was ranked outside the top 150 in the world at the start of the year due to injuries but has bounced back to climb into the top 70, Mattek-Sands won 6 61 63 and will now meet 12th seed Maria Kirilenko for a place in the quarter finals.
Speaking after her win, Mattek-Sands commented, "I was up 3-0 in the first set and I was playing my game, playing aggressive, making all my shots, and I think she upped her level after that. The biggest thing for me is I stuck with my game.
Even though I was making some mistakes, I was playing how I wanted to play and I was playing how I knew I could win. Obviously I didn't want to lose that first set, but I was really happy with how I was able to come back in the second set and almost do the same thing.
And then after that I got up 3-0 again in the second set and was like, 'All right, this game, right here. This is what I need. I was able to close. It was nice - it was a quick two sets, almost under an hour those two sets." 12th seeded Kirilenko defeated Swiss Stefanie Voegele 76(3) 75.
