After she won against Hercog in the first round of Transylvania Open, Emma Raducanu witnessed the match between her idol Simona Halep and one of her best friends on the WTA tour, Gabriela Ruse, with whom the US champion even got dinner in one of the past nights at Cluj-Napoca.
It’s not clear who did Raducanu had rooted for in the all-Romanian encounter, but Simona Halep definitely impressed on the court as the match ended with a clear 6/1, 6/2 for the double Grand Slam winner. Raducanu and Halep could meet in the semifinals of the Transylvania Open if everything goes smoothly for both of them.
Tennis World reporters saw Emma Raducanu leaving the stadium soon after Halep’s match ended. “Simona is an inspiration to me. I loved watching her from a young age. We have had a few short friendly exchanges. She has been really nice.
Which I find really cool. It is amazing now I can play the same tournaments as her, see her around. I just find her really cool,” said Raducanu in a recent interview.
Simona Halep is ready to play the Transylvania Open final
In the post-match press conference, Simona Halep looked confident as she described her performance against Gabriela Ruse.
"It was a pretty difficult match. The pressure to play at home against a Romanian woman is always quite high. I was focused, I knew what to do and I felt in control. The game went very well, just as I had planned with the coaches before the game.
I like those shots very much and I always profit and try and, even if I don't succeed every time, at least I tried,” said Halep. Furthermore, the Romanian shared her big plans for the Romanian tournament. “I'm ready for the final.
Every match is hard, no matter the tournament, no matter what level you are at. It's a comeback from a serious injury. I'm not interested in the result, I want to feel good on the field and reach the level I had before,” said Simona Halep.
