Emma Raducanu hires Angelique Kerber's ex-coach

US Open champion Emma Raducanu has revealed that Torben Beltz is her new coach. Raducanu, 18, put up a stunning run at the US Open to become the first qualifier in tennis history to win a Grand Slam. Shortly after her win at the US Open, Raducanu decided to part way with coach Andrew Richardson.

Raducanu cited the desire to find a more experienced coach as the reason for her move. Beltz is an experienced coach, having coached Angelique Kerber to two Grand Slams titles and a No. 1 ranking. "You guys cracked it!

It's obviously a great privilege to be working with such an experienced coach. I'm definitely very excited to work with him throughout the preseason and into next year," Raducanu said, per Simon Briggs.

Kerber worked with Beltz between 2015 and 2017, before hiring him again last year.

Kerber and Beltz agreed to part ways following the end of Kerber's 2021 season. ‟I can look back positively on the past season," Kerber told the Porsche Tennis website. "I invested lots of strength and energy to get to where I am now.

For me, the next step when starting the season in Australia will be all about continuing where I left off. After Torben’s departure from the team, it also means that I would like to take on more responsibility. I’m very grateful for our time together and for everything we experienced and achieved as a team.

It’s a new phase of my career that I’m about to enter now, whereas I’m fortunate to say that the rest of my team remains unchanged. In all the years, I’ve learnt how important it can be to have new impulses after a certain amount of time for one to continue competing at a top level”. Raducanu's 2021 season came to an end on Tuesday following her loss to Xinyu Wang in her Linz opener.
