Tennis - Former world no. 1 Jelena Jankovic and former world no. 10 Andrea Petkovic are through to the semi-finals of the NÜRNBERGER VERSICHERUNGSCUP in Germany. Petkovic, who won a challenger title in Marseille last week, had a tough time getting past fellow German Annika Beck, coming from 1-3 down in the final set to win 46 63 75.
Speaking after her win, Petkovic commented, "Annika played a really great match. She was moving incredibly well and playing really deep balls. In the beginning I just didn't have any energy in my legs to spin the ball and I was missing a lot of balls and shanking them.
I was very frustrated, but thankfully I found my rhythm by the end of the third set and was able to pull through." The German will meet the top seeded Jankovic next. The Serb beat Spain's Lourdes Domínguez Lino in straight sets.
Seventh seed Simona Halep will meet Czech Lucie Safarova in the other semi-final. Halep scored a 64 61 win over Galina Voskoboeva while Safarova beat Polona Hercog 76(5) 36 64.
