Two American youngsters and an American veteran advanced to the second round of the WTA Citi Open in Washington on Tuesday, but Melanie Oudin was not one of them. Oudin, once considered the brightest American junior, has struggled to win mathces this year, dropping out of the top 100 and on Tuesday, she was beaten by Austria's Tamira Paszek in three sets.
American Irina Falconi beat Olga Govortsova 63 64 while qualifier Madison Brengle beat Melinda Czink 76(5) 75. Also, 36 year old veteran Jill Craybas beat Zheng Jie 26 63 62. Another American Alison Riske was a first round loser.
The tournament's top two seeds Shahar Peer and Nadia Petroca were also first round winners.
