Karolina Muchova suffers setback ahead of 2022, out of Australian Open

World No. 32 Karolina Muchova has suffered a setback ahead of the 2022 season as she won't be able to play the Australian Open. "I'm sad to announce that my 2022 season will not start in Australia," Muchova said in a Twitter post.

"I'm doing all I can to get back on the court as soon as Im able." Muchova put an end to her season in September and cited her desire to play pain free in 2022 as the main reason. "Sad to announce that the season is over for me, but the wise saying 'health first' is the one I must go with as I would love to start the new tennis year pain free and enjoy the game again!" Muchova said in September.

"Thank you all for always cheering me on! "Can’t wait to see you on the court again in 2022!"

Muchova joins Serena Williams on the AO withdrawal list

Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam champion, also won't be playing at the Australian Open.

"While this is never an easy decision to make, I am not where I need to be physically to compete," Serena Williams told the Australian Open website. "Melbourne is one of my favorite cities to visit and I look forward to playing at the AO every year.

I will miss seeing the fans, but am excited to return and compete at my highest level." Timea Babos also won't play at the Australian Open but not because of injury but because she doesn't want to comply with the rules and protocols set.

"I simply cannot identify with the Australian government's COVID-19 measures, the possible quarantine obligation, as COVID camps deter. I can honestly say I wouldn't go to Australia with a calm heart for either the singles qualifying or my favorite Grand Slam," Babos said.

"I'm sorry for the situation and I wish all the participating players to Australia good luck and above all a safe stay." It remains to be seen when will Muchova make her comeback.
