Ukrainian tennis star Elina Svitolina was grateful to all players that participated in a charity event organized for Ukraine. Svitolina was one of the players that took part in the Tennis With the Stars event, from which all profit was redistributed to support relief fund for Ukraine.
Svitolina arrived to Indian Wells alongside her husband Gael Monfils. USA's Frances Tiafoe, Nick Monroe, Jessica Pegula and the Bryan brothers all participated in a charity event organized for Ukraine. Also, Svitolina took a moment to show appreciation to those who are fighting for Ukraine or helping the country in any way.
“I am really happy that we were able to organize this event to raise funds and help people who are in need. I am really grateful to all the people who defend Ukraine and the people living in Ukraine who are going through hell.
Truly grateful to all soldiers and volunteers who have taken up arms and are doing their best to defend our nation and Ukrainian land," Svitolina said.
Svitolina was on a 'mission' in Monterrey
Last week, Svitolina made the Monterrey quarterfinal before suffering a surprise defeat to Camila Osorio.
“I was on a mission for my country,” Svitolina reflected. “I’m in a very sad mood, but I’m happy I’m here playing tennis. “I think it’s my mission to unite our tennis community to stand with Ukraine, to help Ukraine because what we’re going through is a horrible thing for all Ukrainians.
“That’s why I’m here. That’s why I’m playing for my country and doing my best to use my platform to try to invite people to support Ukraine. “For me, playing the match here, I’m not playing only for myself, I’m playing for my country, I’m playing for the help of the Ukrainian army and people in need. Every victory that I’m going to get is going to be very special."
