Garbine Muguruza set to miss some time due to injury

Spanish tennis star Garbine Muguruza is set to miss some time due to a shoulder injury. Muguruza, ranked at No. 9 in the world, had a first round bye in Miami as she was scheduled to meet Lauren Davis in the second round. On Thursday, Muguruza pulled out of Miami, Charleston and the Billie Jean king Cup.

Muguruza, 28, was scheduled to make her 10th Miami appearance this year. Muguruza, a two-time Grand Slam champion, hasn't enjoyed much success in Miami throughout her career. Muguruza, a former world No. 1, has never made it past the round-of-16 in Miami.

Muguruza suffered a shock loss in Indian Wells

Muguruza made a strong start to her Indian Wells opener but then lost after a stunning collapse. Muguruza led 6-0 3-0 after the opening nine games of the match against Alison Riske but the American refused to quit and ended up claiming a 0-6 6-3 6-1.

"This was a much more rewarding win in the fashion that I did it, over had it been an easy two-setter," Riske said following the comeback. "I could have easily checked out and been out of there in 30 minutes, really.

So I am very proud of that fact ... It's never over till it's over. “I played this tournament so many times. Hopefully we're not ending here, but my best result thus far is coming when I'm 31 years old. I'm very proud about that.

I don't think the best days are behind me either, which I think is really exciting." It hasn't been a great season so far for Muguruza as she has made only two quarterfinals. Muguruza came to the Australian Open hoping to make it all the way but she suffered a shock second round loss to Alize Cornet. Muguruza has been struggling with her consistency this year as only in Doha she managed to win back-to-back matches.
