LTA promises continued support to Emma Raducanu

LTA Chief Executive Scott Lloyd says the governing body of tennis in Great Britain will continue supporting Emma Raducanu as she continues her adjustment to the life on the tour. Raducanu quickly went from a promising teenager to a tennis superstar as massive expectations have been placed on her following her stunning US Open victory.

Raducanu drew attention to herself last summer, when she reached the Wimbledon round-of-16 as a wildcard. Raducanu showed promise at Wimbledon but no one was prepared for her stunning US Open victory that came two months later.

“It is going to be in some ways a very tough year, a tough summer for her, in terms of her profile. It is only a year ago she was sitting her A Levels," Lloyd said. “Emma needs to try to find what works for her in terms of how she navigates the tour and the travelling.

“She has a long way to go in terms of starting to find herself and learn what works for her to deliver optimal performances”.

Lloyd: Raducanu has been handling her situation well

Raducanu is considered as one of the most talented and promising players on the tour.

Since her stunning US Open victory, Raducanu has landed several lucrative sponsorship and endorsement deals. Last week, Raducanu made her Billie Jean King Cup singles debut. The hope is Raducanu wins multiple Grand Slams and leads Great Britain to Billie Jean King Cup success.

“You saw her navigate that last summer with incredible maturity given the circumstances,” said Lloyd. “She has a very level head on her shoulders. It is a development period, it is a learning experience, but she is in a good place.

“She knows what she wants to try and do. She is an incredible tennis player. I am sure she will go on to many more successes in the years to come”.
