Former world No. 1 Naomi Osaka has a great level of respect and admiration for Iga Swiatek as she thinks the Pole is a cool character and is doing awesome things. Swiatek, 20, has been absolutely dominant over the last two and a half months as she has won her last 23 matches.
In Miami, Osaka had a chance to end Swiatek's winning streak but she barely stood a chance in the Miami final as the Pole won 6-4 6-0. Last week, Swiatek kicked off her clay season by winning her fourth consecutive title in Stuttgart.
"I think it’s really awesome what she’s doing," Osaka said, per Sportskeeda. "I wish I would be able to win four tournaments in a row. "I think to me she just looks really concentrated, which is really cool at such a young age.
I think she has a goal, maybe we all don’t know about that goal, but it really looks like she has a purpose. It’s really cool to see her playing that well and I really want to play her on clay just to see what happens."
Osaka, Ons Jabeur praise Swiatek
After Miami, Swiatek officially became the world No. 1 for the first time time. According to Jabeur, Swiatek has absolutely deserved to be enjoying the success she is enjoying right now. “She deserves to be here, it didn’t happen just over a day.
Whether we want it or not, she’s an inspiration to a lot of players, me included. I hope I can achieve that level because I don’t know what she’s doing right now but what she’s doing is right. I hope she can continue that way but not against me,” Jabeur said.
Unfortunately, tennis fans won't have a chance to see Swiatek in Madrid. On Wednesday, Swiatek pulled out of Madrid due to a shoulder injury.
