Elina Svitolina announces pregnancy

Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina has announced that she and her husband Gael Monfils are expecting their first child. Svitolina and Monfils have been married since last summer and this weekend Svitolina announced the happy news through her social media.

Svitolina is already four months pregnant as she and Monfils are expecting a baby girl in October. "With a heart full of love and happiness, we are delighted to announce that we are expecting a baby girl in October," Svitolina wrote in a Twitter post.

Svitolina pulled out of the French Open

Svitolina hasn't played since March as she took a break after losing openers in Indian Wells and Miami.

Just a few days ago, Svitolina announced her withdrawal from the French Open. However, Svitolina will be at the French Open as she will accompany her husband Monfils during his campaign at the tournament. "I will not be playing Roland Garros unfortunately," Svitolina told insidethegames.

"This is a decision that I made a couple of days ago. For me I just need to take time to settle down and be ready when I am [ready]. I will be at the Roland Garros with Gael. I will be supporting him every step of the way but performing is a very different thing.

You have pressure, you have pressure from yourself, you want to perform well but when I am not 100 per cent this is a very tough for me to perform at the very best level." Svitolina could now maybe decide to skip the rest of the season and return at the start of the 2023 season.

This year, Svitolina has a 5-8 record. After losing her third consecutive match in Miami, Svitolina decided to take a break from tennis as she admitted that the scenes from her country were taking a big toll on her. It remains to be seen when will Svitolina play again.
