Top-ranked British male tennis player Cameron Norrie has told Emma Raducanu to embrace the Wimbledon attention and enjoy being in the spotlight at The Championships. Raducanu, 19, became a Grand Slam champion at the US Open last year and she is the player that is likely to get the most attention at this year's Wimbledon.
Raducanu landed British tennis a Grand Slam title and it is not a secret that that the locals expect a Wimbledon title from her. The expectation and pressure will be huge on Raducanu whenever she comes to The All England Club for Wimbledon.
“Hopefully she will go and embrace it. She knows exactly how much attention she will get. It will be even more. She needs to keep her head down, keep enjoying the tennis, I’m sure she is looking forward to the grass.
I think it is one of her best surfaces as well. It will be a lot of fun," Norrie said, per Tennis365.
Norrie: Raducanu is very mature
Raducanu is just 18 but she is already a tennis star and one of the most marketable tennis players.
Norrie, 26, admits he was nowhere near where Raducanu is at 19. “At 19, I was doing different stuff than she is now. She is having to deal with a lot more pressurised situation and bigger moments than I was at the same age.
I was in college enjoying myself and living a more normal life. She is very mature, very well spoken and hopefully she can let her tennis do the talking at Wimbledon. She played great there last year. Hopefully she can use the home crowd to her advantage – people will be loving her," Norrie added.
Last year, Raducanu was awarded a wildcard into Wimbledon. Raducanu impressed in her Wimbledon debut as she reached the last-16, before she was forced to retire versus Ajla Tomljanovic because of an injury. However, last year Raducanu played without any pressure but this year it will be a completely different story.
