Cori Gauff discusses facing Iga Swiatek in French Open final

American tennis star Cori Gauff, 18, is thrilled to be playing world No. 1 Iga Swiatek in the French Open final. On Thursday, Gauff saw off 59th-ranked Martina Trevisan 6-3 6-1 to reach her maiden Grand Slam final at Roland Garros.

In the final, Gauff will take on a familiar face - Swiatek. Gauff, ranked at No. 23 in the world, reveals it was her dream to play Swiatek in a Major final. "I'm really happy to play her specifically, because I always wanted to play her in a final, and I knew it was going to happen eventually, even in juniors that it was going to happen, just from the way our games were both projecting.

I just didn't think it would happen so soon," Gauff told WTA insider.

Gauff: Success hasn't changed Swiatek, who is still very kind

Swiatek is having an outstanding 2022 season and she has won her last 34 matches.

On Saturday, Swiatek will be gunning for her 35h consecutive win and a sixth consecutive title. "I have known Iga since she was probably ranked lower, and now that she's No.1, nothing has really changed other than her tennis.

But behind the scenes, she's as nice as I think you guys see in the press conferences. I think that's really important and rare to see," Gauff added.

Gauff and Swiatek will be going head to head for the third time in their respective careers when they meet in the French Open final.

Swiatek and Gauff met for the first time in Rome last year, when the Pole claimed a straight-set win. Three months ago in Miami, Swiatek and Gauff met for the second time as the Pole claimed another straight-set win. Interestingly, Swiatek won 2021 Rome and this year's Miami.

On Saturday, Swiatek will be hoping to beat Gauff for the third time and clinch her second Grand Slam title. It remains to be seen if Gauff can upset Swiatek and win her first Grand Slam title.
