Eurosport tennis expert Alex Corretja says Simona Halep can't be underestimated at Wimbledon as he feels the Romanian could definitely be a threat at The Championships. Halep is no stranger to making a strong run at The All England Club, having won it all there in 2019.
Halep suffered a disappointing second round defeat at the French Open and she will certainly be motivated to bounce back at Wimbledon. "You never know what can happen with someone as good as Simona Halep because I was expecting her to do well at Roland-Garros," Corretja told Eurosport.
"It didn't happen, but maybe after that period to prepare and to get ready for Wimbledon she's fresher, and now with the experience she has, maybe it's enough to just go ahead into the tournament."
Corretja: Halep is someone opponents don't want to draw
"Simona we all know is a warrior, she's a great fighter and she's going to be there.
I'm sure if you see Simona Halep on your side of the draw, you don't want to play against her because you know that you will need to fight till the end, no matter if it's grass, clay or hard court. So I think, Simona, you always need to give her credit that she can do well," Corretja added.
Halep kicked off her grass season last week in Birmingham, where she reached the semifinal before losing to Beatriz Haddad Maia. This week, Halep is playing at Bad Homburg and she has been through to the semiifnal. When it comes to Wimbledon, Halep knows what it takes to make a deep run at The Championships.
In 2019, Halep put up a stunning run at The All England Club to lift her maiden Wimbledon title. In the 2019 Wimbledon final, Halep handed Serena Williams a 6-2 6-2 loss. Wimbledon was cancelled in 2020, while Halep was forced to miss last year's tournament due to a calf injury.
