Elina Svitolina shares thoughts on Iga Swiatek organizing charity for Ukraine

Ukrainian tennis star Elina Svitolina says she is pleased to be participating in a charity event organized by world No. 1 Iga Swiatek. On Wednesday, Swiatek announced she is organizing "Iga Swiatek and Friends" - a charity event that will take place on July 23 in Krakow.

The event will be featured by Swiatek, Svitolina, Agnieszka Radwanska, Sergiy Stakhovsky and Martin Pawelski. Svitolina, who announced pregnancy a month and a half ago, will serve as the chair umpire at the event. All the proceeds from the event will go to Ukraine as Swiatek wants to help the Ukrainian children affected by the war.

Svitolina on Swiatek organizing a charity event

"I'm pleased to announce that I have been invited to participate in the unique event 'Iga Swiatek and Friends for Ukraine.' Iga and her team have been working on the event for months.

It aims to raise funds to help children and teenagers affected by war in my country. The collected funds, for example, the total income from tickets, will be transferred, among others, to my foundation, as well as to the official aid fund of Ukraine - United24, of which I'm an ambassador.

The sale of tickets for this event will start tommorow (on Thursday) at 6pm 8GMT+2). I will take part in the event as a special guest together with my friend Andriy Shevchenko, but I will also have the honor of being the main umpire.

See you on 23rd July in Krakow, a Polish city whose residents have welcomed many Ukrainians fleeing the war. I would like to thank Iga and her team for this initiative, and Andriy and Sergiy for joining her," Svitolina announced in a message posted on her Twitter.

For months, Swiatek had been trying to organize a charity event for Ukraine. After Wimbledon, Swiatek will have some time off and she thinks now it's perfect time for her to hold a charity event.
