Tennis - American Shelby Rogers has secured a main draw wild card at the US Open later next month, after finishing as the points leader during the USA Pro Circuit in recent weeks. Rogers won the singles title at the $50,000 USTA Pro Circuit event in Lexington, Ky., Sunday in order to claim the wild card.
She also secured the USTA wild card for the French Open earlier this year. Speaking after her win, Rogers commented, "The [US] Open is incredible. I have played in the qualies, and I have played in the main draw once before.
I won a wild card from the National Championships when I was in the 18s, so it will be nice to be back on the big stage. I’m looking to do some damage there." Rogers is currently ranked no. 133 in the world.
The men also have a wild card for the US Open with one more week's action still pending.
Alex Kuznetsov currently leads the men’s standings with 80 points, followed by Bradley Klahn in second place with 77 points.
