Andy Roddick heaps praise on Iga Swiatek

Andy Roddick feels Iga Swiatek is "showing off her growth in greatness" as he was impressed by the Pole's ability to overcome all the challenges and win the US Open. Leading up to the US Open, Swiatek picked up back-to-back round-of-16 exits in Toronto and Cincinnati.

Swiatek was evidently struggling with her game leading up to the US Open, and she also complained about the balls used during the North American hard court swing. After arriving to New York with a 2-2 record on hard this summer, Swiatek won seven matches in a row to win her first US Open title.

"@iga_swiatek is showing off her growth in greatness," Roddick tweeted. "Conditions/balls she wasn’t a massive fan of, and not having had her best stuff coming into this slam. Still problem solved, and found her best for the final.

A dominant year that has been a pleasure to watch. Cheers Iga!"

Swiatek was 'surprised, proud' of her run

After beating Ons Jabeur for her first US Open title, Swiatek admitted that she was surprised and proud at the same time.

“It's something that I wasn't expecting for sure. It's also a confirmation for me that [the] sky is the limit. I'm proud, also surprised [a] little bit, just happy that I was able to do that,” Swiatek said after winning the US Open.

Also, Swiatek felt that staying focused on her goals was the key behind her US Open victory “I needed to stay composed and focus on the goals,” Swiatek said. “It’s New York -- it’s so loud, it’s so crazy.

It’s really mind-blowing for me. I’m really proud I could handle it mentally”. Swiatek now has three Grand Slam titles in her collection. Swiatek is the seventh player in the Open Era to have won three Grand Slams before turning 22.
