Quite a scene in Parma; Sloane Stephens overcomes bee sting, difficult opponent

American tennis star Sloane Stephens got stung by a bee during her Parma opener and then proceeded to win the match. In the Parma first round, Stephens defeated Magdalena Frech with a 3-6 6-3 6-4. Late in the third set, Stephens got stung by a bee.

Even though the sting caused certain discomfort for Stephens, she was able not to just finish the match, but to also win it. "I got stung by a bee at 4-4 in the 3rd set during my match today and it was not a pleasant experience.

0/10 - Do not recommend," Stephens tweeted.

Stephens defeated Frech in three sets

Frech put pressure on Stephens' serve early on, but Stephens saved a break point in the second game to avoid going down by an early break.

Stephens maybe avoided going down by a break in the second game, but couldn't save another break point in the sixth game as Frech opened a 4-2 lead. In the rest of the set, Frech routinely held on to her serve to win the opener.

After not having a single break point in the first set, Stephens started the second set with back-to-back breaks and a 4-0 lead. Frech got one break back in the fifth game to cut the deficit to 4-1, but Stephens earned her third break of the set in the sixth game to open a 5-1 lead.

Down by two breaks, Frech refused to quit and got one break back to cut the deficit to 5-3. After failing to serve out for the second set in the seventh game, Stephens managed to do so in the ninth game and force a third set.

The first break of the third set was seen in the seventh game when Stephens broke Frech for a 4-3 lead. In the eighth game of the third set - when Stephens was stung by the bee - Frech broke back to tie the set to four games apiece.

But Stephens kept her focus as she broke Frech again in the ninth game, before serving out for the match in the following game.
