Boxing icon Mike Tyson described Cori Gauff as "amazing" and noted the 18-year-old American definitely has a lot of time to further improve and develop her game. Gauff, 18, started making notable results when she was just 15.

At 2019 Wimbledon, Gauff upset Venus Williams and went on to reach the round-of-16 in her debut at The Championships. Now, Gauff is a top-10 player and has been to one Grand Slam singles final. Gauff has been widely tipped to become a Grand Slam champion and reach the top spot one day.

Tyson: Gauff is amazing

"I think she's amazing. She has something that most don't have and that's time. She has a lot of time to cultivate her skill to become a lot better. And that's what she has that I find most of the players don't at this time," Tyson said on the Advantage Connors podcast, per Sportskeeda.

Meanwhile, Gauff exited the San Diego Open. On Friday, Gauff couldn't upset first-seeded Iga Swiatek in the San Diego quarterfinal. In what was their third meeting of the year, Swiatek claimed a pretty dominant 6-0 6-3 victory over Gauff.

After losing to Swiatek for the third time this year, Gauff admitted that Swiatek too good that she felt the need to overplay on certain shots. “I felt like I was overplaying, with her you kind of sometimes feel like you have to overplay, just because she’s playing so good.

I’ve lost to her so many times, and I just didn’t have it today. Each time I play her, I learn a lot, like that I overplayed on certain shots which caused me to make more errors”. At this year's French Open, Gauff made her maiden Grand Slam singles final.

There, she met Swiatek. Swiatek, who was the top favorite for the French Open title, defeated Gauff 6-1 6-3 to lift her second title at Roland Garros.
