Donna Vekic reacted with three "laughing-out-loud" emojis to a fan suggesting that she should have hit Iga Swiatek when the Pole tried to distract her at the net. On Sunday, Vekic and Swiatek clashed in the San Diego Open final.

During the second set - as Vekic was preparing to hit a shot - Swiatek raised her arms in the air, seemingly trying to distract Vekic from winning the point. Vekic won the second set, but Swiatek won the match with a 6-3 3-6 6-0 score.

"She thinking that she should have hit the ball straight at Iga, flailing hands and all," a fan tweeted, to which Vekic responded with three laughing-out-loud emojis.

Vekic later deleted that post.

Vekic was accompanied by a tennis legend in San Diego

In San Diego, Vekic was joined by American tennis legend Pam Shriver - a former 22 Grand Slam champion in doubles. Having Shriver around certainly helped Vekic, who made her first Grand Slam final of the year in San Diego.

"She actually drove down the first day of quallies to talk about something completely different. She stuck around for the whole week. It was great to have support from her, some advice from her. Yeah, so I was really happy to have her around.

Her son as well. They were really good support all week," Vekic told WTA Insider. Following a great San Diego run, Vekic returned inside the top-50. Vekic, who is now ranked at No 47, has made a positive start in Guadalajara as she defeated Laura Pigossi in her opener.

This week, Vekic would love to make another strong run and to make another ranking jump. "The ranking motivates me, but what means a lot to me is that I was able to play the level of tennis that I had last week, and for seven matches in a row. That really means a lot to me," Vekic said.
