Alize Cornet, Iga Swiatek's streak conqueror, reflects on her 2022 season

Alize Cornet, 32, says it has been a very memorable 2022 season for her. At the start of this season, Cornet achieved her best-ever Grand Slam result, when she made her first Major quarterfinal at the Australian Open. After reaching her first Grand Slam quarterfinal, Cornet did something that no one was able to do for five months - she defeated Iga Swiatek at Wimbledon to end the Pole's run of 37 consecutive matches.

"End of the season. I gave everything I had till the very end, finishing the season dead beat, exhausted like I've never been before (well yeah I'm not getting any younger), but what a journey this 2022 season has been. If on the 1st of January, someone would have told me the emotions that were awaiting me, I wouldn't have believed it, so it's now time to take all the positive out of it and bring it with me for some well deserved vacation.

Thank you all for the amazing support that pushed me the whole year and see you in three weeks for the Billie Jean King Cup," Cornet said in a message posted on her social media.

Cornet made one final in 2022

Two weeks ago, Cornet made her first final of the year in Monastir.

Unfortunately for Cornet, she fell short in her attempt to win Monastir after Elise Mertens handed her a 6-2 6-0 loss in the final. This week, Cornet played her final WTA tournament of the year in Guadalajara. In the Guadalajara first round, Cornet suffered a surprise defeat to Lin Zhu.

Cornet was up by a set and a break, but still lost the match. However, Cornet's season is not over. In three weeks, she will be representing France at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals. It remains to be seen if Cornet can finish her season by winning the the Billie Jean King Cup Finals with France.
