Tennis: The Williams sisters powered passed the Czech Lucie Safarova and her partner Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (who are seeded 11th for the event) in the opener by winning the set with the loss of a single game. The second set got off to an exciting start, much to the crowd"s satisfaction.
Safarova and Pavlyuchenkova appeared up to the task at hand more and more with each rally. They certainly raised their level of play to challenge the Williams sisters at net, while the Pavlyuchekova backhand down the line had glimpes of brilliance.
The 11th-seeded pair put up a fight in the ongoing second set and remained on serve until they fell by a break of serve in the 7th game. They got a chance to get back on serve very quickly in the following game on the Venus Williams serve.
Pavlyuchenkova put a volley into the net to squander their first break point but they converted the second break point due to a double fault off the racket of Venus Williams, her second daouble fault in that game. The Williams sisters got another break of serve to serve out the match at 5-4.
Even considering the fact that they are not seeded in the tournament, their experience always comes to the fore the furher they establish themselves in an event. Surprisingly, Serena fired the first ace of the match in the 10th game.
In a dramatic tail-end of the set, the Williams sisters allowed their opponents back into the match again when they were broken serving for the match. Pavlyuchenkova and Safarova rallied from trailing 0-5 in the second set breaker but eventually lost 1-6 6(3)-7 to Venus and Serena Williams.
