Strength and conditioning coach Laura Legoupil has announced that she is ending her partnership with Caroline Garcia. On Friday, world No 4 Garcia suffered a surprise 6-2 6-3 defeat against Sorana Cirstea in the Miami Open second round.

On Saturday morning, Legoupil announced she was leaving Garcia's team. "After one and a half years, I decided to end the collaboration with Caroline Garcia. I wish her the best for the future," Legoupil announced on Instagram.

Garcia loses another team member

After struggling with her form for a couple of years, Garcia rediscovered her best tennis in the second part of the 2022 season and won four titles.

But then just before the start of the WTA Finals, the tennis community was shocked after learning that coach Bertrand Perret split with Garcia. At the time, Perret gave a bit cryptic message. "I'm not a man of false pretense and when it's over, it's over.

There have been problems. They ended up spoiling the atmosphere and I preferred to stop. I do this job for fun and there wasn't as much [any more]," Perret told L'Equipe at the time. So far in 2023, Garcia has had two notable results but overall it hasn't been a great season for her.

After finishing the 2022 season on a very high note, Garcia didn't hide that she was targeting to become a Grand Slam champion at this year's Australian Open. But instead of celebrating her first Grand Slam victory, Garcia suffered a shock Australian Open round-of-16 defeat to Magda Linette.

After the Australian Open, Garcia made two finals in Lyon and Monterrey - both times ended as runner-up. At the Sunshine Double, Garcia didn't impress. In Indian Wells, Garcia won her first two matches before Cirstea ousted her in the round-of-16.

After losing to Cirstea in Indian Wells, Garcia again lost to the Romanian - this time in the Miami second round. Following back-to-back losses to Cirstea, Garcia was left by her strength and conditioning coach Legoupil.
