Belinda Bencic is dealing with a hip injury and she has withdrawn from the upcoming WTA 1000 events in Madrid and Rome. Since March, Bencic has been dealing with a hip injury. Now, Bencic has decided to take a short break to address the issue and hopefully be fully ready for the French Open.

"I have some discomfort in my hip which I struggled with during the US swing as well and need to take a little rest and recover to be back at 100% for Roland Garros. I will miss both tournaments dearly but will be back in a few weeks and can't wait to be back competing soon and continuing in great form," Bencic wrote.

Bencic's main priority is to be ready for the French Open

Bencic, 26, is hoping to become a Grand Slam champion in the near future.

Since Bencic's main priority is to be fully ready for the French Open, her decision to skip Madrid and Rome shouldn't be surprising. But there is one issue - Bencic will arrive to the French Open with just one clay tournament played leading up to the second Grand Slam of the season.

In early April, Bencic kicked off her clay season in Charleston. In Charleston, Bencic was the defending champion and she fell just short of winning back-to-back titles at the tournament. Last year, Bencic won her first clay title after beating Ons Jabeur in Charleston final.

This year, Bencic was beaten by Jabeur in the Charleston final. Even though Bencic was hampered by a hip injury, she was still able to make a deep Charleston. In late May, Bencic is expected to make her seventh main draw appearance at the French Open.

So far in her career, Bencic hasn't had much success at Roland Garros. Bencic's best French Open results have been third-round appearances at the tournament in 2019 and 2022. It remains to be seen how well can Bencic do at the French Open this year.
