Coach Sebastian Sachs said "difficult situations led to difficult conversations" after he and Emma Raducanu decided to part ways. On Thursday, Raducanu announced on social media that she and coach Sachs mutually agreed to end their partnership.
Last month, Raducanu underwent surgeries on both wrists and her left ankle. "Unfortunately, difficult situations led to difficult conversations and ultimately we came to this decision. Obviously, it's a shame because I like Emma and we worked very well together on the court," Sachs told Eurosport.
Raducanu said she 'enjoyed' Sachs' coaching
In a statement, Raducanu indicated that she loved working with Sachs but that it was "unfeasible" for them to continue working under the current circumstances. "I have really enjoyed Seb’s coaching and working with him, it’s unfortunate that circumstances made it unfeasible for both of us to continue right now and we have decided to part ways.
I wish Seb all the best moving forwards," Raducanu announced. In late 2022, Raducanu started experiencing more problems with her wrist and she decided to end her 2022 season a bit prematurely. In the offseason, Raducanu focused on getting stronger in the gym and she also added Sachs to her coaching staff for the 2023 season.
After focusing on being healthy and ready for the 2023 season, Raducanu rolled her ankle in her first tournament of the season in Auckland. Raducanu did manage to play at the Australian Open but she was sidelined for the next months as she took time to recover from an ankle injury.
Then, Raducanu's wrist injury reappeared again. After competing in Indian Wells, Miami and Stuttgart, Raducanu realized that there was no point in continuing to play while injured. With that being said, Raducanu decided to undergo multiple surgeries.
Now, Raducanu has split with her fifth coach in two years and she will be sidelined for quite some time as she is recovering from multiple surgeries.
