Ajla Tomljanovic had to further postpone her season debut. The Australian player played her last official match at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals on November 13th. After representing her country in the most important team event, Tomljanovic had to deal with constant knee problems and decided to miss the Australian Open.
The hope of the player born in 1993 was to return to the court at Wimbledon 2023, a tournament in which she reached the quarterfinals in 2022, but her current physical conditions did not allow her to compete on the lawns of the All England Club.
Evert consoles Tomljanovic: the Australian will also miss Wimbledon
Ajla wrote on her Twitter account: "Having experienced so many emotions and special memories at Wimbledon over the last few years, hopes of returning to the court there were very high this year.
Unfortunately, my knee is asking for some more time before I can feel confident enough to get back to my best level. I can't wait to get back but this year Wimbledon came a little before I was ready. I know it will be worth the wait, see you next year." Chris Evert, former WTA number one and 18-time Grand Slam singles champion, heartened the Australian on Twitter.
The two, as also revealed by the TV series Break Point produced by Netflix, share a splendid friendship.❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏 https://t.co/0qz4DDiVMx — Chris Evert (@ChrissieEvert) June 27, 2023
Precisely speaking of her splendid relationship with Evert, in one of the press conferences held at Wimbledon 2022, the Australian had explained: "We talk often, indeed in recent months we have spoken more than ever. She has been very present this year, it's nice to be able to talk to her.
We really love each other, she's a true legend." Now Ajla could come back for the North American hard-court Summer, but in the next weeks they will come more news.
