New British No 1 Katie Boulter reveals she hasn't seen Emma Raducanu around Wimbledon but noted the 2021 US Open champion could certainly give her some good advice. After undergoing multiple surgeries and announcing her withdrawal from the French Open and Wimbledon, Raducanu also lost her British No 1 status to Boulter.
Being the top-ranked British female tennis player always draws attention and 26-year-old Boulter is experiencing it for the first time in her career. Raducanu, who visited Wimbledon as a guest this week, was the British No 1 during last year's Wimbledon.
Boulter on Raducanu: Sure she'd give me some good advice
"Actually, I haven't seen Emma Raducanu around. I keep my head pretty buried when it comes to that stuff. I haven't seen many people. I'm sure she'd have some very good advice for me.
I don't doubt that. She's been through a lot herself. I'm sure she is trying to get back on the court as quickly as she can. Of course, we wish her the best," Boulter said of Raducanu. Recently, Raducanu admitted she sometimes regrets about winning the 2021 US Open.
For British tennis, it was their first female Grand Slam win since 1977. When Boulter heard about Raducanu's sad admission, she told the 20-year-old there was absolutely no need to feel like that. “If we didn’t have Emma then I don’t think that these girls would be pushing through and I’ve taken a lot of inspiration from her.
What she did was absolutely incredible and I don’t think It’ll ever be emulated again. It was quite the moment and she’s a very special girl. I tried to take a lot of inspiration and tried to do what she was doing," Boulter recently told The Telegraph. In the absence of Raducanu, the pressure is on Boulter to deliver at Wimbledon and make Great Britain proud.
