Iga Swiatek highlighted that the Warsaw title is "very important" to her after reading that some have been suggesting that winning a WTA 250 title in the Polish capital isn't as important for the Pole as the upcoming events in North America.

Last week, Swiatek defeated Laura Siegemund in the Warsaw final to become the first Polish player to win a WTA event in Poland in the Open Era. Swiatek, whose main focus is on winning Grand Slams and WTA 1000 titles, badly wanted to win a WTA title in Poland in front of her home fans.

"What a week it was. I read somewhere that the 250 WTA tournament is not as important as my next challenges in Canada and in the US. Well...to me it was VERY important and I'm happy I felt so much support and positive energy from you, fans.

Thank you for that and see you soon," Swiatek wrote.

Swiatek's big goal was to win a title in Poland

Warsaw may be just a WTA 250 tournament but for Swiatek it is as important as it gets.

Swiatek has had a major impact on Polish tennis and she is doing her best to promote the game in a positive way. By playing in Warsaw and winning the title there, Swiatek has probably inspired more Polish kids to pick up a racket and play pro tennis.

Although Swiatek was the absolute favorite to win Warsaw, she admitted afterward that she was feeling stress and pressure during the tournament. "I want to thank my team and my family. It's not easy to play in Warsaw, but I'm so happy that we could manage and do everything we could today, after a pretty tiring day yesterday.

I wanted to put it all in and go for it. I'm pretty happy that I did," Swiatek said after winning the title. Next week, Swiatek will return to action at a WTA 1000 event in Montreal.
