Coco Gauff has won her 15th consecutive match and she has beat Iga Swiatek's previous record for the most consecutive wins on the WTA Tour in 2023, via OptaAce. On Thursday, No 3 seed Gauff defeated 16th-seeded Veronika Kudermetova 7-6 (5) 6-2 in the Beijing round-of-16.

Gauff, who won Cincinnati and the US Open in her last two tournaments played, is now three wins away from winning her third consecutive title. Earlier this year, Swiatek - the 2023 French Open champion - posted 14 consecutive wins before losing to Elina Svitolina in the Wimbledon quarterfinal.

Gauff wanted to play her game against Kudermetova

At a WTA 1000 event in Beijing, Gauff is playing her first tournament since the US Open.

After beating Ekaterina Alexandrova 7-5 6-3 in her Beijing opener, Gauff just barely avoided a shock loss to Petra Martic as she edged out the Croatian 7-5 5-7 7-6 (2). Going into the Kudermetova match, Gauff wanted to be herself on the court.

"The end of this season for me, especially once you're qualified [for the WTA Finals], I consider it bonus matches. That's why the first two matches, I think I was disappointed in the way that I was playing. I think I was playing a little bit more tight, not going for my shots, not going for my serve.

Today I was telling myself try to hit above 110, 115 as much as I could, be more aggressive. In the long run ... I feel like now that the pressure is off, now that the Grand Slam season is over and I'm qualified, I think this could be a good week to continue to work on things I need to work on.

Today I think I approached the match like that. I wish I did it earlier," Gauff said after beating Kudermetova. In the Beijing quarterfinal, Gauff plays against Maria Sakkari.
