Two-time Grand Slam champion Garbine Muguruza has indicated that she has no plans to return to tennis in the near future. Muguruza, 30, hasn't played since suffering a Lyon first-round loss on January 30th. After abruptly withdrawing from the entire Arab swing in February, former world No 1 Muguruza announced in March her decision to take an indefinite break from tennis and prioritize her mental health and her well-being.
Since taking a break from tennis, Muguruza has been spending quality time with her family, friends and fiance. “Tennis has no place in my routine. I still pay attention to my peers, from time to time I can play but not intensely, more for fun.
It doesn’t occupy my mind, my day or my routines, I’m really taking a real break and trying to stay away from the court. I am living this break very happily since it was something that my body and my mind needed so I am really enjoying these moments,” Muguruza told Women's Health Magazine.

Muguruza is still working out
Earlier this year, Muguruza hinted she would not play again in 2023. But the general expectation was that Muguruza would likely return at the start of the 2024 season.
While away from tennis, Muguruza is still working out in the gym and training. “My motivation is always very high, but in a world as competitive as high-level tennis, I hold on very strongly to the fact that if I don’t train, my opponents will and they will beat me because they will be more prepared," Muguruza said.
After winning the 2021 WTA Finals, Muguruza went just 12-17 in 2022. After a disappointing 2022 season, Muguruza started her 2023 season with four consecutive defeats. After falling to a 0-4 record in 2023, Muguruza decided to take a break from tennis. It remains to be seen if and when Muguruza will play again.
