Karolina Muchova admitted she rooted for Maria Sakkari to lose her Beijing quarterfinal match and also revealed that she, Ons Jabeur, and Marketa Vondrousova all watched together the Greek's match against Coco Gauff. On October 6th, Gauff handed Sakkari a 6-2 6-4 loss in the Beijing quarterfinal.

Following Sakkari's Beijing quarterfinal loss, Muchova, Jabeur, and Vondrousova all secured the last three spots for the WTA Finals. Muchova, 27, highlights that she is never wishing on anyone to lose but also reminds that there was a lot on the line for her at that moment.

"In China, we were all locked in a hotel. We were watching Maria’s match. I don't wish anyone to lose, but it was strong for us at that moment. Maky knew at that point that she could fly home from China. I made the same decision a few days later.

We were happy, and we congratulated each other and hope to see each other in Cancun," Muchova told iSport.cz.

Muchova still dealing with a wrist injury

After finishing as the runner-up in Cincinnati and also making the US Open semifinal, Muchova turned to addressing her wrist injury.

Although her wrist wasn't in perfect condition, Muchova went to China because she still needed to secure a WTA Finals spot. Following Sakkari's, loss, Muchova opted not to play at all and just returned home. Not having to play in Asia was absolutely welcomed by Muchova, who needed additional time to address her wrist issue.

"Since the US Open, I've been suffering from wrist pain, I've treated it in different ways. The preparation is not ideal, but I hope that I will be able to fly to Mexico and play there. On Thursday, I got the green light from the doctors that I can now pick up the racket," Muchova said. It remains to be seen how will Muchova do in her WTA Finals debut.
