Emma Raducanu has confirmed that she is planning to play again at the start of the 2024 season but also revealed she still doesn't know where her return will officially start. After undergoing surgeries on both wrists and her right ankle in May, Raducanu is training and practicing regularly.

The 2021 US Open champion's goal is to play again soon after missing the entire second half of the 2023 season, including Wimbledon. “Not exactly but I will be back for the start of the season for sure,” Raducanu told BBC Radio 4 Today.

Raducanu's comeback to start in Auckland?

In late September, Auckland tournament director Nicolas Lamperin revealed that the tournament has had certain talks with Raducanu. Raducanu, a former world No 10, started her 2023 season in Auckland.

In Auckland, Raducanu suffered an ankle injury and afterward sounded off on the "very slippery courts" at the tournament. “There have been some, but it’s too early to say, because we still don’t have a set return date.

The door is open if she wants to come, but we have had to go after other players, with whom we have more certainty. It’s not off the table, but we’d need more time, because we still don’t know when she’s coming back," Lamperin told Stuff.

Auckland tournament director Lamperin's revelation came as a surprise to some, considering what Raducanu said about the tournament earlier this year. “It’s difficult to take. I’ve put a lot of physical work in the last few months and I’ve been feeling good and optimistic.

So to be stopped by a freak injury, rolling an ankle is pretty disappointing, in the first week as well. I thought I was playing some pretty decent tennis. The courts are incredibly slick, like very slippery, so to be honest it’s not a surprise that this happened to someone.

It’s out of my control and after a very long day of waiting around. But we’ll assess over the next few days and see what the next steps are," Raducanu said after suffering an injury in Auckland earlier this year. It remains to be seen if Raducanu will be playing in Auckland, which takes place between January 01-07.
