The battle between Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek for the Year-End No 1 ranking has reached its final point as the Belarusian and the Pole have learned scenarios in which they can secure the year-end top spot. Sabalenka, who has been ranked at No 1 since the end of the US Open, arrived at the WTA Finals with 8,425 ranking points on the 2023 WTA Race list.

On the other side, Swiatek has collected 7,795 points so far this season. Since Sabalenka is up by 630 ranking points on Swiatek, the Belarusian is certainly in a better position to finish as the Year-End No 1. However, there are multiple scenarios in which Swiatek could end up surpassing Sabalenka after the WTA Finals.

Here are the scenarios as posted on the WTA website.

Sabalenka replaced Swiatek at the world No 1 spot after the US Open

Swiatek, a four-time Grand Slam champion, was the top-ranked player in the women's game for 75 consecutive weeks before 25-year-old Sabalenka replaced her at the top spot following the conclusion of the US Open.

Swiatek, 22, had a very long first stint as the world No 1. After losing her top ranking, Swiatek said she would be better prepared if she reached the world No 1 position again. "I would say if I would become World No 1 again, for sure I think I would be kind of more prepared for everything.

It's not like I would change some things exactly, but I would know how to deal with them at this point. I think if I learn and take lessons from it, it's going to be easier. But for sure the first thing is getting there. I'll just try to do that.

For now, step by step. I'll just celebrate this trophy," Swiatek said after winning Beijing earlier this month. It should be noted that the Year-End No 1 is determined by points collected during the season.
