World No 2 Aryna Sabalenka has announced that she is going to be starting her 2024 season at the Brisbane International. Sabalenka, 25, has no previous appearances in Brisbane. When the tournament takes place in the first week of the 2024 season between December 31-January 07, Sabalenka will be making her debut on the hard courts of Brisbane.

In a statement, Sabalenka sounded very excited about coming to Brisbane. "I’m excited about starting my 2024 Australian season in Brisbane. Australia holds a special place in my heart after winning my first Grand Slam there.

I can’t wait to make my debut at the Brisbane International and play in front of the Queensland tennis fans," Sabalenka said in a statement.

Sabalenka hopes to have another great run in Australia

Earlier this year, Sabalenka was absolutely perfect in Australia.

Sabalenka started her 2023 season at the Adelaide International, where she claimed four straight-set wins to start her season with a title. After winning Adelaide in her first tournament of the year, Sabalenka also made her big Grand Slam breakthrough at the Australian Open as the Belarusian won seven matches at Melbourne Park to lift her first Major.

In the end, Sabalenka went 11-0 in Australia at the start of the 2023 season. Not only that Sabalenka won 11 matches in Australia this year, she also did it by dropping just one set in those 11 matches. The only time Sabalenka lost a set in Australia this year happened against Elena Rybakina in the Australian Open final.

But after a slow start to the Australian Open final, Sabalenka recovered to win 4-6 6-3 6-4. After a very strong and successful run in Australia in 2023, Sabalenka will definitely be considered among the top favorites for the titles at the Brisbane International and Australian Open. It remains to be seen if Sabalenka can start her 2024 season with a title in Brisbane.
