Aryna Sabalenka says it is always great matches against Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina as the Belarusian acknowledged that taking on her two big rivals is a great preparation for the new season. At the World Tennis League in Abu Dhabi - where matches are played in one-set format - Sabalenka met Rybakina and then Swiatek. Against Rybakina on Friday, Sabalenka won 7-6 (2) and she also won a match tie-break they played with a 10-6 scoreline. On Saturday, Sabalenka clashed against Swiatek and won 6-4.

“We had a lot of great matches against each other. Honestly, we didn’t play the full match, but played just a set. Of course, it’s really good to have these kind of matches before going into the next season. I think we played really great tennis, great level and it’s really great to have these matches ahead of the next season," Sabalenka told Gulf News when asked about her WTL wins over Rybakina and Swiatek.

Sabalenka, Swiatek & Rybakina were called by some the 'WTA Big Three' in 2023

Early in the year, Sabalenka, Swiatek and Rybakina were by far the best players on the WTA Tour and that led to some calling them "WTA's Big Three version." In the second part of 2023, Coco Gauff was absolutely impressive and she is also now on their level. In Abu Dhabi, Swiatek addressed having a strong competition in the likes of Sabalenka and Rybakina.

“The women’s tennis has been at a consistent level for the last couple of seasons. Me, Aryna and Elena, I feel, are standing out and playing consistently but there others who are also just trying to get better. However, for me there is no difference. I like to work at my own pace, but when somebody is competing with you and keeps pushing you then it has a positive impact and a negative impact, but I don’t over analyse it," Swiatek told Gulf News.
