Emma Raducanu has received a pretty favorable Auckland draw as she has been drawn to face a qualifier in her ASB Classic first-round match.

Raducanu, 21, came to Auckland to start her 2024 season and also play her first tournament since undergoing three surgeries in May. After having surgeries on both wrists and her right ankle, Raducanu is ready to play again.

On Saturday, the ASB Classic in Auckland released the tournament draw and Raducanu learned she would be starting against a qualifier. Raducanu - who received a main draw wildcard into Auckland - will certainly be happy about the start she got in New Zealand.

Raducanu hopes this year in Auckland goes far better

In 2023 January, Raducanu debuted on the hard courts of Auckland. Unfortunately for Raducanu but also the Auckland organizers, the Briton's comeback didn't go as expected.

In her first-ever match in Auckland, Raducanu defeated Linda Fruhvirtova 4-6 6-4 6-2, After beating Fruhvirtova, Raducanu was also the favorite to beat Viktoria Hruncakova.

Up by a set against Hruncakova, Raducanu slipped on the court and rolled her ankle late in the second. After receiving a medical timeout, Raducanu returned and played a few more points before retiring the match. At the moment of retirement, Raducanu and Hruncakova were tied to one set apiece.

After retiring the match, Raducanu was evidently crushed as the left the court in tears. In her post-match press conference, Raducanu called out the Auckland organizers and described their courts as very slippery. At the time, it looked like Raducanu would never again play in Auckland.

But in mid-2023, the Auckland organizers reached out to Raducanu to see if she would be interested in coming back to Auckland in 2024. Those talks were successful as Raducanu agreed to return to the tournament in New Zealand. It remains to be seen if Raducanu can have a much better and more positive Auckland campaign this season.
