Former 22-time Grand Slam doubles champion Pam Shriver warns Emma Raducanu that some players never return the same after surgeries but highlights that nothing is ruled out in the Briton's case since she is working hard and determined to get back to her old level.

In the year and a half after her 2021 US Open, Raducanu constantly dealt with multiple injuries. Last May, Raducanu got fed up with constantly dealing with something so she made a radical move and had surgically addressed injuries on both of her wrists, as well as on her right ankle.

After missing the remainder of 2023 to heal and recover from her surgeries, Raducanu returned to action at the start of the 2024 season. Since then, Raducanu has appeared in four tournaments and so far so great as the 21-year-old hasn't had any injuries.

Now, Raducanu is set for her fifth tournament of the season in Indian Wells after being handed a main draw wildcard. For Raducanu - who made the Indian Wells round-of-16 last year before losing to world No. 1 Iga Swiatek - this will be her fourth appearance in the desert.

Shriver on Raducanu's Indian Wells chances and her warning for the Briton

"I find this era of tennis so demanding on the joints. I want to see how she stands up to the test of time. There is history that shows some players never fully regain their form, but all indications are Raducanu is fully motivated to become a successful player again," Shriver told the WTA

"Even though we’re going on more than two years since winning the US Open, that run should give her confidence she can compete with the best players in the world when healthy."

In the Indian Wells first round, Raducanu's opponent will be a qualifier. If Raducanu beats the qualifier, her Indian Wells road gets tougher as then she could potentially face this year's Australian Open semifinalist Dayana Yastremska in the second round and No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka in the third round, respectively.
