Former world No. 26 Camila Giorgi has retired from tennis in a silent way as the Italian didn't make any announcements but just popped up on ITIA's list showing retired players.

On Wednesday, the tennis community was left surprised after seeing Giorgi's name on ITIA's updated list of retired players. By pulling that off, Giorgi basically just decided to walk away from pro tennis without caring too much to make any announcements - something that is not rarely seen in tennis or pro sports.

However, 32-year-old Giorgi was a bit of a character during her playing days so a good portion of tennis fans wasn't really surprised by the Italian's move.

Giorgi last played in late March at the Miami Open, where she defeated Magdalena Frech before Iga Swiatek handed her a 6-1 6-1 second-round loss.

But even before an early Miami exit, Giorgi didn't have a great year as the loss to Swiatek put her on a 3-6 record in 2024.

Giorgi's career accomplishments

Giorgi, who turned 32 in December, won her maiden WTA title on the grass courts of 's-Hertogenbosch in 2015, while her second title came in 2018 Linz. In 2021, Giorgi achieved by far the best result of her career when she as the underdog won a WTA 1000 tournament in Montreal. And last year, Giorgi won her fourth and final WTA title in Merida.

When it comes to the Grand Slam level, Giorgi never really enjoyed much success there as during her career she managed to just twice reach a Major round-of-16 - at the 2013 US Open and the 2022 French Open.

In 2021, Giorgi also made her Olympic debut as she reached the quarterfinal before losing to Elina Svitolina.

On the WTA rankings list, Giorgi's career-high ranking saw her sit at No. 26 in the world - that ranking was achieved in 2018 October. At the time of her retirement, Giorgi was ranked at No. 116 in the world.

Giorgi may not have achieved major success in tennis but she still made a nice career for herself.
