The first day of the Internazionali BNL d'Italia was certainly not a lucky one, with leaden weather and disputes. Sofia Kenin, for example, was the protagonist of a dramatic reaction towards the chair umpire and the crowd at the Foro Italico. The American, worried about the playing conditions, with the result 3-2 in favor of her opponent Lucia Bronzetti, asked the referee to interrupt the match. A

ccording to the winner of the 2020 Australian Open, the light rain that was falling at the time made the ground slippery, but the umpire didn't think the same way. At this refusal, Kenin exploded, throwing the towel on the ground and directing some disrespectful remarks towards the umpire. This reaction was not at all liked by the crowd in the stands, who booed the American loudly. Sofia, offended by this treatment meted out by the fans, dedicated another very insulting insult to them in Italian, which you can see (and hear!) in the video below:

In short. Very tense nerves yesterday at the Italian Internationals. Due to rain the day was postponed several times and this compromised the program on day 1 at the Foro Italico. If some matches, such as the one between Fabio Fognini and Daniel Evans, have been postponed to today, the one between Bronzetti and Kenin has been concluded (as mentioned).

The Italian player had a good start and she took a 3-1 lead at the start but was caught up to 3-3. Here the match had its first interruption due to rain. At the restart, Kenin got off to a better start and she won the set 6-3. In the second set Kenin again managed to get ahead in the match, which she then managed to close 6-2 just as the rain was starting to fall very heavily on the Foro Italico.
