Naomi Osaka has a goal she would like to achieve in the upcoming period as the former world No. 1 hopes to finally win her first title on the fastest tennis surface during this year's grass season.

This week, Osaka - who will be turning 27 in October - made her return to the grass courts for the first time since 2019. And so far, Osaka has been outstanding on the grass courts of 's-Hertogenbosch, clinching two routine straight-set wins - after ousting No. 4 seed Elise Mertens 6-2 6-4, the 26-year-old Japanese also demolished qualifier Suzan Lamens 6-2 6-2 to set up a quarterfinal showdown versus 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu.

In her collection, Osaka has seven titles and four of those have come at the Grand Slam level. But while Osaka has seven titles in her collection, none of those titles has come in a grass or clay tournament.

Osaka hopes to clinch her first grass title

After starting her grass season with two consecutive straight-set wins, Osaka was asked to rate her performance on a scale from zero to 10.

“I don’t want to rate it. I just say I felt more comfortable today than the day before. Hopefully with every match and practice I’ll continue to get better," Osaka responded.

Then, Osaka was asked if she had any particular goals for this grass season. That's when the 26-year-old Osaka admitted she was hoping to win her first grass title during this period.

“Hopefully to win a tournament. That’s a long term project. I just hope I continue to play well and be healthy," Osaka said.

So far so good for Osaka in 's-Hertogenbosch. But on Friday, she will be facing a very difficult test when she meets fellow Grand Slam champion Andreescu, who clinched a 6-4 6-4 win China's Yue Yuan on Wednesday.

In the past, Osaka and Andreescu met once as the Japanese won their 2019 Beijing match with a 5-7 6-3 6-4 scoreline.
