Former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki has announced that she has been given the green light to compete at the Paris Olympics, which means that she will have a chance to accomplish her goal of adding an Olympic medal to her resume this summer.

Wozniacki, 33, didn't have a ranking good enough to qualify for the Olympics and she also didn't meet the criteria of representing Denmark at least twice in the Billie Jean King Cup. But Wozniacki - who in April appeared in the Billie Jean King Cup for the first time since 2011 - returned to tennis last summer and it was clear from Day 1 that she would be one of the biggest favorites for a wildcard.

And since current world No. 117 Wozniacki is a Grand Slam champion and a former world No. 1, the ITF granted the Dane's wish and gave her a wildcard for the Paris Olympics. This means that Wozniacki is set to make her fourth Olympic appearance and her goal of playing mixed doubles with Holger Rune seems like a strong possibility now.

"Today I officially qualified for my 4th Olympics!!! Paris 2024, see you there!!! Here a little throwback from Rio2016!" Wozniacki wrote on X.

Wozniacki hopes to win an Olympic medal

In the past, Wozniacki made the round-of-16 in the 2008 Beijing Olympics - reached the 2012 London Olympics quarterfinal - and she also exited her last Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in the second round.

After making it clear earlier this year that playing at the Paris Olympics was a big goal, Wozniacki was asked to pick between another Grand Slam or her first Olympic medal.

"At this point in time I’d take either! I think a Grand Slam is a Grand Slam obviously,… but for me personally I would love to get an Olympic medal, because I don’t have one. Another Grand Slam would be very special, but so would an Olympic medal. I’ll take either, I’m not going to be picky on that one!" Wozniacki said in April.
