Tennis: A big upset happened on the start of the day 6 of the 2014 French Open, when World No.3 Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland was beaten in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 by Ajla Tomljanovic of Croatia. 2012 Wimbledon finalist and this year's Australian Open semifinalist was Quarter-finalist in Paris last year and was up against an opponent ranked 69 places below her in the WTA rankings.
This was first meeting between both players. The Croat had reached third round after beating 32nd seed Elena Vesnina of Russia in straight sets. 21-year-old Tomljanovic converted both of the break points she got in the first set and won it 6-4 in 37 minutes.
In the second set, Radwanska was not able to capitalise on any of the three points she had, whereas Tomljanovic broke her once to take the set 6-4 and cause the big upset. Tomljanovic had not won a French Open match before this year and it was her first appearance in Paris.
This was the first time that she reached the 3rd round of a Grand Slam, and she has reached her first Grand Slam 4th round. She will face either Taylor Townsend from the USA or 14th seed Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain. Radwanska exit means that top 3 seeds in the women's draw are already out.
Top seed Serena Williams was ousted in the second round, whereas second seed Li Na exited in the first round. 4th seed Simona Halep is now the highest ranked player in the draw. It is the first time since 1978 that at the French Open all three top seeds in the women's draw are ousted between the first 3 rounds
